Built around your body

Therapeutic yoga is for bodies that need the practice built around them rather than the other way round. The groups are deliberately small, the pace is slow, and nearly everything is adapted. Many people come here alongside physiotherapy or after being told by a clinician that gentle movement would help.

Commonly worked with

  • Persistent lower back and neck pain.
  • Recovery from surgery or a long illness.
  • Joint conditions and reduced mobility.
Therapeutic Yoga

Before you start

Emma will ask about your history, your current symptoms and what makes them worse, and she will keep asking as things change. That conversation is part of the class, not an administrative preliminary.

What the hour is like

Mostly floor and chair-based work with a lot of props, focused on joint care, gentle strengthening and breathing. Nothing is held to the point of strain and nothing is pushed for the sake of progress.

An ongoing conversation

Emma keeps asking how you are, because it changes.

Nothing forced

Nothing is held to strain and nothing is pushed for progress.

Alongside your clinician

This is not a substitute for medical care and Emma will say so. It sits alongside it, and works best when your clinician knows you are coming.

After my surgery I was frightened of moving at all. Emma asked more questions in the first ten minutes than anyone had asked me in six months, and built the hour around the answers. I am doing things I had written off.

Get In Touch

Do I need experience to start?

No. Every class is taught with options rather than expectations, and our Fundamentals and Gentle sessions assume no prior practice at all. Tell your teacher it's your first time and they will look after you.

What should I bring to my first class?

Comfortable clothes and a water bottle. Mats, blocks, straps and bolsters are all provided, and there are showers and lockers in the changing rooms.

Can I come without a membership?

Yes. Drop-in classes and pay-as-you-go class packs sit alongside our memberships, so you can practise as often or as rarely as suits you.

How early should I arrive?

Fifteen minutes before your first class, and around five for every class after that. It gives you time to check in, settle and set up your mat without rushing.

Can I pause or cancel my membership?

Pause or cancel anytime with 30 days notice. There are no joining fees and no lock-in contracts, and any unused class credits stay on your account.

Do you teach pregnant or injured students?

We do. Several of our teachers are qualified in pre and postnatal practice and in therapeutic yoga. Let us know before class so your teacher can adapt the session for you.
